Mercruiser DTI diesel

Been looking at a Bayliner equipped with the mercruiser D1.7 DTI diesel, and I'm trying to get a better sense of what to expect with this setup coz I know it's not the most common pairing, but I've seen a few listings and the fuel economy is definitely appealing.
but.... I know I need to ask the important questions like, what's reliability like on the D1.7 in the long run? And how well does it actually push a boat this size, especially when loaded with gear and a few people aboard?

That D1.7's pretty thrifty on gas but kinda underpowered for bigger boats, if you keep up on maintenance, it's great.

Just keep it well-maintained. Really reliable and will get you a long way.

You won't have to worry too much about the reliability, they do well on the long run if cared well. As for the peppiness it depends on the boat. M or E series are generally light and the power to weight ratio will be quite nice. For something bigger like the DX you're gonna notice it's a bit sluggish

It won't give you high speeds on a loaded Bayliner, more like steady, efficient cruising. Fuel economy is good too, but don't expect it to plane hard; it's just more about smooth, predictable performance
